Thomas Sowell is a senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution and an American economist, historian, and social theorist.
He was awarded the National Humanities Medal for pioneering study that combined history, economics, and political science.
Sowell has taught at a number of institutions, including Cornell University, Amherst College, the University of California, Los Angeles, and, most recently, Stanford University.
He's also had positions at think tanks like the Urban Institute. He has worked at Stanford University's Hoover Institution as the Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy since 1980.
In 1976, Sowell was offered both a presidential position in the Nixon administration and a position as Federal Trade Commissioner by the Ford administration, but he declined both. Similarly, he was offered the position of Secretary of Education in the United States under Ronald Reagan but declined. Sowell has written more than 45 novels.
