Lenny Wilkens is an American former basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame three times: once in 1989 as a participant, once in 1998 as a coach, and once in 2010 as a member of the 1992 United States Olympic "Dream Team," for which he served as an assistant coach.
Wilkens was selected for the NBA 50th Anniversary Team in 1996, and the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.
He was the only individual to appear on the list honoring the NBA's 75th season as both a player and a coach, and he was also included in the list of the 15 Greatest Coaches in NBA History in 2022.
Additionally, he was admitted in 2006 to the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
Wilkens won the NBA championship in 1979 as the head coach of the Seattle SuperSonics, was named the 1993 NBA Coach of the Year, was a combined 13-time NBA All-Star as a player (nine times) and as a head coach (four times), and won an Olympic gold medal in 1996 as the head coach of the United States men's basketball team.
When he retired with 1,332 victories, Wilkens owned the NBA record for the most regular season coaching victories set during the 1994–95 season.
He is third on the list as of February 2022, after Don Nelson and Gregg Popovich.
For the 2010–11 NBA season, Wilkens was the recipient of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award.
Additionally, Wilkens is the most successful coach in NBA history, having coached 2,487 regular-season games, 89 more than Nelson and more than 400 more than any other coach.
He has also suffered 1,155 more losses than any other coach in the league's history.
