Since 2012, he has served as the head coach at Southern Methodist University. In 2004 Brown's team won the NBA Championship, and in 2001 he was voted NBA Coach of the Year.
He was the head coach of the NBA All-Star Game thrice and guided his teams to three Eastern Conference titles.
In addition, Brown was named ABA Coach of the Year three times and received the Naismith College Coach of the Year award.
At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, he represented the United States and earned a gold medal. He was inducted as a coach into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
